Ikon vs Epic

Ikon vs Epic: Utah Resorts on Each Pass

Oct 16, 2026 SLC Mountain Transfers team 5 min read

Which Utah resorts each pass covers for 2026-27, the blackout dates and reservation rules to know, and how far each resort is from SLC airport.

Quick answer

  • For 2026-27, the Epic Pass covers one Utah resort: Park City Mountain, including Canyons Village, with unlimited days.
  • The Ikon Pass covers six: Solitude (unlimited), Deer Valley, Brighton and Snowbasin (7 days each), and Alta and Snowbird (7 days shared).
  • Deer Valley requires lift reservations for Ikon holders and is not on the Ikon Base Pass.
  • Epic Local and Ikon Base have holiday blackouts, including Dec. 26–30, 2026 and Presidents Day weekend.
  • Powder Mountain and Sundance are on neither pass.

For the 2026-27 season, the Epic Pass covers one Utah resort, Park City Mountain (Canyons Village included). The Ikon Pass covers six: Deer Valley, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude and Snowbasin. Powder Mountain and Sundance aren't on either.

So the Ikon vs Epic question in Utah mostly comes down to where you'll stay. A Park City base points to Epic for Park City Mountain or Ikon for Deer Valley next door. A Cottonwood Canyons trip is all Ikon.

Utah resorts on the Ikon and Epic Pass for 2026-27

This table comes from Ski Utah's 2026-27 multi-resort pass page, cross-checked with ikonpass.com. Distances are one-way from SLC airport. Where the resort publishes a figure we use it, otherwise it's a range from other guides and a route check.

A few notes on the distances. Deer Valley, Alta, Solitude and Snowbasin publish their own figures (Snowbasin's comes from Ikon's resort page). Snowbird's site lists 29 miles, and our route check came out closer to 33. Park City, Brighton and Powder Mountain figures are from third-party guides or a route check, and Sundance gives a time, not a distance. Drive times are in normal conditions, and the canyon resorts can take a lot longer on storm days.

All nine resorts are also on the Ski Utah Gold Pass and Yeti Pass, which are Utah-only products.

Epic in Utah: one resort, unlimited days

Park City Mountain is the whole Epic story in Utah, and it's a big one. The resort has two bases, Mountain Village in town and Canyons Village on the SR-224 side near Kimball Junction. For 2026-27, a new 10-person Canyons Village Skyway gondola links the new parking structure to the village.

The full Epic Pass gives unlimited days. The Epic Local Pass also includes Park City Mountain, with holiday blackouts (see the table below). Park City Mountain isn't on Ikon.

From the airport it's I-80 east through Parleys Canyon, roughly 35 to 39 miles. Our SLC Airport to Park City guide compares every way to get there.

Ikon in Utah: six resorts in three areas

The Ikon resorts split into three groups, and that grouping matters more than the day counts when you plan.

Little Cottonwood Canyon: Alta and Snowbird. Seven days shared between the two, so seven total, not seven each. Ikon Base adds five days at Snowbird. Both resorts are at the top of SR-210, which is subject to the Cottonwood traction law and avalanche closures. Read how the canyon roads work in winter before you plan to drive.

Big Cottonwood Canyon: Solitude and Brighton. Solitude is unlimited on both Ikon and Ikon Base, the only Utah resort with unlimited days on Base. Brighton has 7 days on Ikon and 5 on Base. Same canyon rules, on SR-190.

Park City and the north: Deer Valley and Snowbasin. Deer Valley gets 7 days with lift reservations required. Snowbasin, north of Salt Lake near Ogden, gets 7 days and has no canyon convoy to deal with.

The Ikon Session Pass gives two, three or four days at select destinations. Check ikonpass.com for which Utah resorts it includes this season.

Blackout dates for 2026-27

The full Epic and Ikon passes have no Utah blackout dates listed. The lower-priced versions do, and the dates line up with the busiest weeks of the season.

PassBlackout dates
Epic Local (Park City Mountain)Nov. 27–28, 2026, Dec. 26–31, 2026, Jan. 16, 2027, Feb. 13–14, 2027

Wasatch BenefitBlackout dates may apply, check with the resort

These are also the weeks when canyon traffic, airport lines and parking reservations are at their worst. The Utah ski season dates guide lists the peak periods in one place.

Other passes: Mountain Collective, Wasatch Benefit, Indy

Mountain Collective gives two days each at Alta, Snowbird and Snowbasin, then 50% off single-day lift tickets.

Wasatch Benefit isn't a pass of its own. When you buy selected passes from member resorts, it adds one free ski day Monday to Thursday at Alta, Brighton, Deer Valley and Snowbird. Blackout dates may apply.

Indy Pass is waitlist-only for 2026-27. Ski Utah lists Eagle Point and White Pine Touring Center as its Utah members. Powder Mountain was on Indy from 2021-22, but it isn't listed for 2026-27 on Ski Utah's page, so check indyskipass.com before counting on it. Sundance isn't on Epic, Ikon or Mountain Collective, and we found no confirmed Indy listing.

Which pass fits which trip

Staying in Park City. Epic gets you Park City Mountain every day. Ikon gets you Deer Valley (with reservations) and puts the Cottonwood resorts within a day trip, though in winter that drive goes back out on I-80 because Guardsman Pass is closed. See Park City to the Cottonwood Canyons for that route.

Staying in the Cottonwood Canyons or the Salt Lake Valley. Ikon covers all four canyon resorts. Epic covers nothing in the canyons.

Skiing several resorts in a week. Ikon reaches more of Utah, and an Epic holder can still add Ikon resorts with lift tickets. Our guide to skiing several Utah resorts in one trip covers where to base yourself and how to move between them without a rental car.

Getting from SLC airport to each resort

The seven Ikon and Epic resorts in Utah are all roughly 30 to 46 miles from the airport. The roads differ more than the distances do.

  • Park City Mountain and Deer Valley: I-80 through Parleys Canyon. Traction law can apply there too, but it's an interstate.
  • Alta, Snowbird, Solitude and Brighton: I-215 to 6200 South, then up SR-210 or SR-190. Expect the traction law, closures and parking reservations on busy days.
  • Snowbasin: north on I-15, then I-84 and Trappers Loop. No canyon convoy.

Common questions

Which Utah resorts are on the Epic Pass?

For 2026-27, Park City Mountain is the only Utah resort on the Epic Pass, with unlimited access. That includes the Canyons Village side, which is part of the same resort. The Epic Local Pass also includes Park City Mountain but blacks out Nov. 27–28 and Dec. 26–31, 2026, Jan. 16, 2027 and Feb. 13–14, 2027.

Which Utah resorts are on the Ikon Pass?

Six resorts for 2026-27: Solitude with unlimited days, seven days each at Deer Valley, Brighton and Snowbasin, and seven days shared between Alta and Snowbird. Deer Valley requires lift reservations for Ikon holders. The cheaper Ikon Base Pass covers Solitude (unlimited) plus five days each at Brighton and Snowbird, and leaves out Deer Valley.

Is Deer Valley on the Epic Pass?

No. Deer Valley is on the Ikon Pass, not Epic, even though it sits right next to Park City Mountain. Ikon gives 7 days with lift reservations required. Ski Utah's 2026-27 page also says that from April 6, Deer Valley becomes unlimited on the full Ikon Pass and those days don't count toward the 7.

Can I ski Alta and Snowbird on one Ikon Pass?

Yes. The Ikon Pass gives seven days shared between Alta and Snowbird, so the seven days are a combined total for both, not seven each. The Ikon Base Pass includes five days at Snowbird. Alta and Snowbird are also on the Mountain Collective Pass with two days each.
