Solitude transfers from $170

Solitude Mountain Resort is about 34 miles from SLC airport, roughly 45 to 55 minutes in normal conditions. The last 13 miles are SR-190 up Big Cottonwood Canyon, and the main thing to get right is which of Solitude's two base areas you're going to.

A private SUV for up to 4 passengers starts at $170 per vehicle, one way, with taxes included. Groups of 5 to 14 ride together in a Sprinter van.

Flights are tracked. Wait charges may apply if a delay runs more than an hour past the scheduled arrival.

Your departure is just as easy. Your driver picks you up at your lodging and takes you back to the airport, with time to spare for check-in and security.

Rides are operated by Elite Transportation, a family-owned private transportation company serving Park City, Deer Valley and Salt Lake City. Request a rate above and dispatch confirms by text or email, usually within the hour.

Updated Oct 16, 2026. Drive times are for normal conditions.

The drive up SR-190

From the airport, head east to I-215, follow it south to the 6200 South exit and continue to the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. From there SR-190 climbs to Solitude. Big Cottonwood doesn't have Alta and Snowbird's interlodge system, but it shares the same winter tire rules and UDOT status feed, and storms can still slow or stop traffic. The Cottonwood Canyon road conditions guide covers how to check status before you go, and our interlodge explainer covers the Little Cottonwood side.

If you're renting, the 4WD and rental car guide explains UDOT's windshield sticker program and what to ask for at the counter.

Moonbeam or the village: where to get dropped off

Solitude has two base areas off SR-190, and the right one depends on why you're there.

  • Moonbeam (Entry 1). The main day-use lot and base, by the Moonbeam Express, Eagle Express and Link lifts. The lot opens at 7 a.m. If you're skiing for the day or meeting friends, this is the stop.
  • Solitude Village (Entry 2). The resort's lodging is here. The village lot is held for lodging guests, village package holders and employees, and lodging guests park free for their stay. A few public spots open at 1 p.m.

A resort shuttle runs between Moonbeam Lodge and the village from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., so a wrong drop-off isn't a disaster, but it's a hassle with bags. Give your driver the entry number along with your lodging name.

Parking at Solitude for 2026-27

Solitude runs parking reservations at the Moonbeam lot through parksolitude.com. For 2026-27 they're required before 11 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from Dec. 18, 2026 to March 29, 2027. Cars with 1 to 3 people pay $35. Cars with 4 or more park free but still need a free reservation. Monday to Thursday (non-holiday), after 11 a.m., and the early and late season are free.

Inventory opened Oct. 15 at 8 a.m., with more released each Sunday at 6 p.m. for the following weekend and a few on the day at 6 a.m. Roadside parking on SR-190 near the top of the canyon is a separate system run by the Town of Brighton (parkbcc.com), with reservations on select days.

Taking the ski bus

UTA's Route 972 serves Solitude and Brighton, boarding at the Big Cottonwood Canyon and Wasatch Blvd park and ride, 6200 South and Wasatch, and Midvale Fort Union Station. It's free for Ikon and Solitude passholders, and other riders paid $5 one way last season. UTA hadn't published 2026-27 dates on Oct. 16, 2026. UDOT plans more frequent canyon buses and winter tolls from fall 2028, but for this season the UTA bus is the public option.

Arriving, and getting to other resorts

The SLC airport arrivals guide shows where private drivers and shuttles pick up. Solitude is on the Ikon Pass with unlimited days, which makes it a common base for a Cottonwood trip. Brighton sits further up the same road. Park City is the long way round: Guardsman Pass is closed in winter, typically Nov. 1 to May 25, so the drive goes back down the canyon and up I-80. The Park City to Cottonwood Canyons guide covers that trip.

Got questions? We have answers:

How far is Solitude from Salt Lake City airport?

Solitude says the airport is about 34 miles away and the resort is 13 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon on SR-190. In normal conditions that's roughly 45 to 55 minutes. Storms, traction law checks at the canyon mouth and weekend ski traffic can stretch it, so leave room on arrival and departure days.

Should I go to Moonbeam or Solitude Village?

Day skiers park at Moonbeam, Entry 1, the main day lot by the Moonbeam Express, Eagle Express and Link lifts. Solitude Village, Entry 2, is where the resort's lodging is, and its lot is reserved for lodging guests, village package holders and employees. If you're staying in the village, tell your driver Entry 2. A shuttle links the two from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

How much is parking at Solitude in 2026-27?

At the Moonbeam lot, reservations are required before 11 a.m. on Fridays, weekends and holidays from Dec. 18, 2026 to March 29, 2027. It's $35 for cars with 1 to 3 people and free with 4 or more, though carpools still need a free reservation. Monday to Thursday, after 11 a.m., and the early and late season are free. Book at parksolitude.com.

Can I drive from Solitude to Park City in winter?

Not over the top. Guardsman Pass, the road between Big Cottonwood and Park City, is closed in winter, typically Nov. 1 to May 25 according to Solitude. In ski season the only route is back down the canyon and around on I-80, which turns a short summer hop into a much longer drive.

Can I get an Uber to Solitude?

Getting up usually works. Solitude's own transportation page says Uber and Lyft can get you up the canyon but drivers are scarce for the ride down, so plan the return ahead. For a flight home, book a shuttle or private ride rather than hoping a driver accepts a canyon pickup.
