A bit about your transfer to Heber City & Midway

Updated Oct 16, 2026. Drive times are for normal conditions.

Heber City and Midway are the quieter base for a Wasatch ski trip. They sit beyond Jordanelle Reservoir, about 13 miles down US-40 from the I-80 exit, with Deer Valley's new East Village on one side and Sundance on the other.

Two roads into the Heber Valley

Via Parleys Canyon (the usual way). The City of Midway's directions from the airport take I-80 east through Parleys Canyon, then exit 146 toward Heber and Vernal. From there it's 12.8 miles on US-40 past Park City and Jordanelle Reservoir, and River Road west into Midway through a string of traffic circles. Heber City is straight on down US-40. On our routing check it's about 51 miles and just over an hour in free-flowing traffic.

Via Provo Canyon. The other way in runs south on I-15 to the Provo and Orem area, then up US-189 through Provo Canyon to Heber. There's no official mileage for this route. Our routing check puts it near 70 miles and closer to 90 minutes, so it's a backup for when I-80 is closed or crawling. It's also the road between the Heber Valley and Sundance.

Heber City or Midway: send the exact address

The two towns are only a few miles apart, but they're priced differently. Our partner publishes a flat rate to Heber City (see the table below). Midway trips are quoted on request, so send the full address through the quote form and you'll get a confirmed price before you book. If you're staying outside either town, in Charleston or near the reservoirs, mention that too.

The city's own directions into Midway run through three traffic circles on River Road. One more reason to give the driver an exact address rather than just "Midway".

Why people base here

  • Deer Valley East Village is on US-40 between Park City and the Heber Valley, so it's the closest big-resort base. The resort added a gondola there in 2025-26 and the Hail Peak Express lift for 2026-27. Our Deer Valley base areas guide explains how East Village differs from Snow Park.
  • Sundance Mountain Resort is the other neighbor, down US-189 through Provo Canyon. Sundance says it's about 45 minutes from Park City, and the Heber Valley sits along that route. See the Sundance travel guide.
  • Park City is close enough for dinners and a ski day at Park City Mountain, without staying in town.

Getting around without a car

Park City's free buses make a car optional there. The Heber Valley takes more planning.

  • High Valley Transit 106, the Wasatch Back Connector, runs nine free trips each way between Heber Valley Hospital and Park Avenue in Park City, from about 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the October 2026 timetable. The ride takes about 47 minutes. It doesn't stop in Midway.
  • High Valley Micro is a free on-demand service you book in an app. It covers parts of the Heber Valley, including Midway.
  • Uber and Lyft are thin on the ground. The City of Midway says rideshare is often limited there.

The city itself recommends renting a car. If you'd rather not drive Parleys in a storm, book a transfer for the airport legs and plan the week around the 106 and Micro, or keep your skiing to one resort. Read do you need 4WD for a Utah ski trip before you rent.

Getting back to the airport

You're farther out than Park City, so start from the Park City timing and add the extra US-40 stretch. Our partner suggests leaving Park City about three hours before a domestic flight and four before an international one, plus 30 to 45 minutes in peak winter. From Heber or Midway, add the drive to Park City on top. Our guide to how early to leave for SLC has the full breakdown.

Other Popular Destinations Near Heber City & Midway

There’s a lot of choice in the Wasatch. If you’re still deciding, here are more Utah resorts within easy reach of Heber City & Midway:

Got questions? We have answers:

How far is Heber City from SLC airport?

About 50 miles, which is around 50 to 65 minutes in normal conditions via I-80 and US-40. There is no official figure for Heber City itself. The City of Midway gives 51 miles to its town center, and Heber is a few miles closer along the same route. Allow more time when the traction law is active on I-80 or US-40.

Is there a bus from Heber to Park City?

Yes. High Valley Transit's free route 106, the Wasatch Back Connector, runs nine trips each way a day between Heber Valley Hospital and Park Avenue in Park City, taking about 47 minutes, on the timetable posted in October 2026. It does not stop in Midway. High Valley's on-demand Micro service covers parts of the Heber Valley, including Midway.

Can I get an Uber in Midway?

Sometimes, but do not count on it. The City of Midway says rideshare options such as Uber are often limited in town. That matters most for early airport runs and late dinners. Book the airport legs ahead, and use High Valley's free Micro service or a rental car for getting around the valley.

Which ski resort is closest to Heber and Midway?

Deer Valley's East Village base, off US-40 on the Jordanelle side, is the closest big-resort base from the Heber Valley. Sundance Mountain Resort is the other nearby option, reached by US-189 down Provo Canyon and then SR-92. Park City Mountain is farther, through Park City on SR-224.

Do I need a car if I stay in Heber or Midway?

More than you would in Park City. The 106 bus links Heber with Park City and the Micro service covers the valley, but there is no direct free bus to Deer Valley East Village or Sundance. The City of Midway itself recommends a rental car to get around. If you only plan to ski one resort, a transfer for the airport legs plus a few local rides can still work.
