Sundance transfers from $170

Sundance Mountain Resort says it is about an hour from Salt Lake City airport, roughly 57 miles in normal conditions. The drive runs south on I-15 to Orem, up Provo Canyon on US-189, then a couple of miles up SR-92, a winding mountain road.

A private SUV for up to 4 passengers starts at $170 per vehicle, one way, with taxes included. Groups of 5 to 14 ride together in a Sprinter van.

Flights are tracked. Wait charges may apply if a delay runs more than an hour past the scheduled arrival.

Your departure is just as easy. Your driver picks you up at your lodging and takes you back to the airport, with time to spare for check-in and security.

Rides are operated by Elite Transportation, a family-owned private transportation company serving Park City, Deer Valley and Salt Lake City. Request a rate above and dispatch confirms by text or email, usually within the hour.

A bit about your transfer to Sundance

Updated Oct 16, 2026. Drive times are for normal conditions.

Sundance is the one Utah resort on this site you reach by heading south instead of east. Instead of climbing Parleys Canyon or queuing at the mouth of the Cottonwoods, you run down I-15 through the valley, turn up Provo Canyon and finish on a narrow mountain road under Mount Timpanogos. It's also farther than Park City.

The route: I-15, Provo Canyon, then SR-92

Most of the mileage is easy. From the airport you join I-15 south and stay on it through the Salt Lake Valley to the Orem area. There you pick up US-189, which the resort describes as the four-lane Provo Canyon highway. The last part is the one to respect: the turn onto SR-92, which Sundance calls "a couple miles up a winding mountain road."

Our routing check puts the whole trip at about 57 miles and a little over an hour in free-flowing traffic, which matches the resort's own "about one hour."

Coming from Park City or Heber instead

Sundance also works as a day trip from the Wasatch Back. The resort puts Park City about 45 minutes away. That route goes south on US-40 to Heber City, then down US-189 through Provo Canyon to the SR-92 turnoff, with no interstate driving through Salt Lake at all. If you're staying in the Heber Valley, you're already partway there. Our Heber City and Midway guide covers that side.

Provo has its own airport, which Sundance says is about 30 minutes from the resort. If your airline flies there, compare it with SLC, though most visitors still land in Salt Lake.

Sundance the resort is not the film festival

The shared name causes plenty of confusion. The Sundance Film Festival ran mainly in Park City and Salt Lake City, and its final Utah edition was January 22 to February 1, 2026. From 2027 the festival moves to Boulder, Colorado, with its first edition there on January 21 to 31, 2027. We explain what that means for January travel in the Sundance Film Festival's move to Boulder.

Sundance Mountain Resort, up Provo Canyon, is a separate place and it keeps running. For 2026-27 it's adding Electric Horseman, a new high-speed quad, and about 100 new acres including a run called Storyteller. Opening day hadn't been announced as of early October 2026.

A small resort, so plan the details

Sundance doesn't run like a big Park City base, and that shapes how you get there and get around.

  • Passes. It's not on Epic, Ikon or Mountain Collective for 2026-27. Expect to buy lift tickets from the resort unless you hold a Ski Utah Gold or Yeti Pass or a Sundance season pass.
  • Lodging. The resort has its own Inn with 63 rooms plus cottages and mountain homes. It strongly encourages overnight guests not to drive and offers complimentary valet on property.
  • Parking. Last season (2025-26), Lot A needed a reservation at $55 per vehicle, while Lots C, D and E were free on weekdays and paid on weekends for cars with three or fewer people until 2 p.m. Check this winter's rates before you drive in for the day.
  • Buses. UTA's 880 and the resort's Park'n'Ride shuttle from Mt Timpanogos Park serve day skiers from Utah Valley. Neither connects to the airport.

The resort itself recommends that out-of-town guests book a ride service from the airport. Our partner, Elite Transportation, runs private SUVs to Sundance from SLC.

Getting back to the airport

The return is the same road in reverse: down SR-92, down Provo Canyon, then north on I-15. I-15 runs the full length of the Salt Lake Valley, so leave a buffer for traffic, plus extra time if SR-92 has fresh snow. If you're comparing Sundance with resorts closer to the airport, our list of ski resorts closest to SLC ranks them by drive.

Got questions? We have answers:

Is Sundance Mountain Resort the same as the Sundance Film Festival?

No. Sundance Mountain Resort is a ski and year-round resort in Provo Canyon. The film festival mostly ran in Park City and Salt Lake City, and its final Utah edition was January 22 to February 1, 2026. From 2027 the festival is in Boulder, Colorado, starting January 21 to 31, 2027. The resort keeps operating and is adding a new lift for 2026-27.

Can I use an Ikon or Epic Pass at Sundance?

No. Ski Utah's 2026-27 pass list does not include Sundance on the Epic, Ikon or Mountain Collective passes. It is on Utah-only products like the Ski Utah Gold Pass and Yeti Pass. Plan on buying lift tickets direct from the resort unless you hold one of those or a Sundance season pass.

Do I need 4WD to drive to Sundance?

The resort suggests renting a four-wheel-drive vehicle in case a big storm hits during your stay. Most of the trip is interstate and a four-lane canyon highway, but the last couple of miles on SR-92 wind uphill, and that is the stretch to take slowly in fresh snow. Overnight guests are encouraged not to drive once they arrive.

Can I fly into Provo instead of Salt Lake City?

Yes. Sundance says Provo's airport is about 30 minutes from the resort, against about an hour from Salt Lake City International. Provo has far fewer flights, so most visitors still land at SLC. If your airline serves Provo, it is worth comparing schedules, especially for a short trip.

Is there a bus to Sundance?

Not from the airport. UTA Bus 880 serves Sundance from the Utah Valley side and is free with a Sundance season pass, and the resort runs a free Park'n'Ride shuttle from Mt Timpanogos Park on select Saturdays and holidays. The dates the resort listed in October 2026 appear to be from last season, so check sundanceresort.com before you plan around them.
